Jhijiya
Introduction
Jhijhiya is a cultural
dance of the Mithila region of the Indian subcontinent. Jhijhiya is mostly
performed at the time of Dussehra in dedication to Durga Bhairavi, the goddess
of victory. While performing Jhijhiya women keep a lantern made of clay on
their heads and balance it while dancing.
Reason to dance
Just as you all know that
there is a reason for doing something, similarly there is a particular reason
for taking this decision, only then it is in the form of traditional dance of
Mithila. It is believed that this
dance is performed to destroy all the evil that can happen and to destroy all
the evil spirits in all the human beings. As may be related like witch jogan so these dangerous whatever they
can do and who in our society come to annihilation by the forces of wrong and
all these are like this. The dance has been done.
When is this dance performed
This dance is performed
during Durga Puja. This dance is performed from Ashwin Shukla Paksha Pariwa
(1st day of durga pujaa) to Ashwin Shukla Paksha Navami (9th day of durga
pujaa), especially from Ashwin Shukla Paksha Saptami (7th day of durga pujaa)
to Navami.
By whom and where is this dance performed
This dance is performed by
a woman coming from the Dalit community of Mithila. This dance is performed in
front of every person's house in a particular area like village toll society.
Or else it is also done in the temple. Well this temple practice has started
recently because now it has come to a state of extinction.
How is this dance Performed
First of all, an earthen
pot is made in which hundreds of holes are done. It is made during Navratri and
uses an earthen lamp or a lantern lit with kerosene or mustard oil. Such a
earthen pot and a lantern are made according to the need and it is tied with
some mantra. And keeping it on her head and all the women dance and control
that earthen pot i.e. maintains balance. And in front of whose house I do this
dance, she gives them a small amount of money or mustard oil or kerosene or something.
It also has some recognition
It is a belief that if she
dances here with us, the same energy that is entering our house will be
destroyed. If a woman's bag becomes unbalanced while dancing, she is declared a
witch, that is, she is doing something bad with the evil power.
What type of song is sung in it
The song that is sung in
it, that destroys the evil power, remains in it. In this, the witch joggin is
abused a lot and the anger inside is removed through the lyrics of those songs
which are part of the witch copy. The witch's husband, son-in-law and other
relatives are abused.
As we show you some lyrics:
tohare
bharose baraham baaba jhijhiya baneleeyay ho ho
baraham
baaba jhijhiya baneleeyay ho
baraham
baaba jhijhiya par hoeeyo
aa
sabaar abodhava baalak tohar kichheeyo ne jaanay chh ho
tohare
bharose baraham baaba jurava baneleeyay ho ho
It is also a belief that every power becomes
strong in Navratri, so the witch who is a witch or a bad power tries to take
full advantage of it, try to make it more successful.
Some challenges in doing this dance
This dance is now disappearing. This dance is
being performed by the people of the Depressed Classes. They believe that we
can no longer abuse. Many people who come from the Dalit community have started
getting educated. They believe that if we teach this to our children, it will
affect their education. Many people also have to say that now we should replace
it with Dandiya Garba because in Bollywood and TV serials like Dandiya Garba is
considered a dance of high quality, then those people are getting the feeling
that if we do Jhijiya then we And people will laugh and joke. And a lot of
negativity has been spread about Jhijhiya which has brought it to the brink of
being a people.
Conclusion
Finally, I would like to say that it is the
responsibility of the people of Mithila to save it from disappearing. Its
propaganda is also to be avoided because if you replace it with dandiya garba
or anything else, it will rule over you because great people have been saying
"if you want to destroy someone, destroy his culture." Do it, it will
be destroyed on its own." May be Mughal or Britain tried to rule the whole
world by doing all this
